What is Hispanic Heritage Month?

September 15 through October 15 was first declared Hispanic Heritage Month by Ronald Reagan in 1988. How has the community changed since then? This dialogue is an opportunity for the Latino community and its allies to reflect on Latino identity development within the broader social, political and economic context in order to gain insight into its future.

Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the anniversary of the independence of Latin American Countries. September 15 is the independence anniversary of five Latin American countries—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico declared its independence on September 16, and Chile on September 18.

Nominate a LGBTQ+ Mentor, Today!

 Faculty and Staff friends:

As we enter this new year, the Office of Intercultural Engagement would like to resume recruitment of upperclassmen students to serve as mentors as a part of P.R.I.S.M, our LGBTQ+ Mentoring Program. This program aims to promote the overall well being of LGBTQ+ identified students through relationship building, attainment of resources, and academic support.

As such an influential aspect of our UNCG community we ask that you think of current upperclassmen students who you would like to nominate to be a mentor for this program. Mentors must meet the following criteria:

- LGBTQ+-identified

- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

- Hold at least sophomore standing (as indicated by completed credit hours)

Your help is integral to the success of this program and we look forward to getting your nominations. The link to the nomination form is attached below. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me ttross@uncg.edu or Elliott Kimball at erkimba2@uncg.edu
