Support, Development, and Supervision of Resident Librarians of Color
Recruitment of resident librarians into university library residency programs has increased significantly since the establishment of the Diversity Alliance in 2015. The recruitment of librarians of color into predominately white spaces brings to surface issues of support and development of these new employees. This webinar will discuss how resident coordinators can support these new hires with the onboarding, acculturation, and understanding of a potentially unfamiliar organizational culture. Additionally, we will look at how these resident positions go about supporting the goals of the organization while helping residents gain marketable skillsets with the goal of developing librarians of color who retained within academic libraries.
